In the next 40 years our globe will need to produce 50% more food from the same land and water resource base to feed a rapidly increasing world population.

The University of Melbourne gives you access to the scientific, social and economic disciplines involved in the production of food and fibre, and the conservation of resources and heritage. We offer Australia ’s widest range of courses in the science and management of natural resources, covering plant, animal and food sciences, urban horticulture, geography, agriculture, forest science and systems ecology, environmental programs, biotechnology, economics and agribusiness, social research and change management. Master of Agribusiness
Agribusiness is food and fibre business. It is uniquely dealing with agricultural products produced under conditions of risk and volatility, and with food production, with all its attendant security, safety and nutritional aspects.

The Master of Agribusiness was developed specifically for the agribusiness professional. The program focuses on enhancing specialised skills required to make effective business decisions within the context of the food and fibre industry, from input suppliers through primary producers to wholesalers, processors and retailers in a competitive, consumer-directed market.

Master of Agricultural Science
The Master of Agricultural Science provides you with the opportunity to fully understand many of the issues faced by the various agricultural disciplines in Australia and overseas. Students will examine in-depth the opportunities and constraints underpinning plant and animal derived food and fibre production. This will include issues of scientific, ethical and economic importance such as climate change, globalisation and market protection, access to water, changing consumer demands, spatial information technologies, land and water degradation and loss of biodiversity, biotechnology applications and genetically modified organisms.

Master of Food Science
If you are a graduate in food science or a related discipline, the Master of Food Science will develop your in-depth knowledge of how agricultural produce is delivered as safe, nutritional and palatable food into domestic and international markets. This course also provides specialist advanced training to allow you to take up a career in the food manufacturing industry.

Master of Forest Ecosystem Science
Forests play a diverse and critical role in sustaining human and other biological communities at a local and global scale. Forests provide wildlife habitat and biodiversity conservation, timber production for high-value products, clean water and other ecosystem services – and they play a central role in mitigating rapid climate change.

Forest scientists are essential for the maintenance and improvement of forests for these and other values including the profitable management of the forest and natural resource sectors of the economy.

Master of Urban Horticulture
The Master of Urban Horticulture was developed specifically if you’re seeking professional employment or developing a research career in urban horticulture.

Offered primarily at the renowned Burnley and Parkville campuses, some subjects are offered online or use intensive, residential or mixed-mode delivery methods.

Core studies are completed in the areas of ecology and environments, landscape management, plant production and establishment, horticultural science, urban flora, and either project management, social research or experimental design and statistics.

Electives include social and therapeutic horticulture, garden history and design, urban tree management, managing invasive species and many others across the University. A number of research projects are also available for selection.

  Master of Wine Technology and Viticulture
The Master of Wine Technology and Viticulture fills an important
niche within the educational offerings to the wine industry. The
flexible mode of this course allows access if you’re based
remotely or internationally, and complements undergraduate
agricultural, viticulture and oenology courses. The Master of
Wine Technology andViticulture is offered by distance education
with additional residential workshops at the Dookie campus.

Study Assistance
CSP Commonwealth Supported Places - There will be a number of CSP (formerly HECS) places
available in 2008, for The Faculty of Land & Food Resources master degree students.

FEE-HELP - Is available for Australian residents or holders of Australian permanent visas. Fee Help
is an interest-free loans facility for fee-paying postgraduate students undertaking non-research
courses. It is similar to the deferred payment arrangements available under HECS.

Scholarships -
There are a large number of Faculty specific, University wide and Industry funded
scholarships available for the Faculty of Land & Food Resources progra ms.

Graduate Access Melbourne - Provides access to applicants whose personal circumstances have
had a sustained adverse effect on their academic achievement at undergraduate level or who are
members of a specified group known
