Rainwater walks consumers through the options for installing rainwater tanks such as utilising above or below ground tanks, planning the distribution of water throughout your home and using pumps and filters to correctly manage collected rainwater.
Consumers unsure about the amount of rainwater they will be able to collect will also find the guide useful, with practical tips on working out your expected rainfall collection based on your collection area and where you live.
The 42-page book also includes an ARID member directory and a state-by-state guide to government rebates.
ARID Chairman David Beattie says the guide has been developed through the experience and knowledge gained by ARID members.
“All ARID members are committed to the development of effective and sustainable alternative water sources to relieve the pressure on our potable water supply,” said Mr Beattie.
“This guide has been produced to emphasise the best way to utilise rainwater and to highlight that rainwater can be used for much more than just watering the garden.”
MPMSAA CEO Ray Herbert says the guide is a must-have for any water user who wants to maintain a sustainable water supply.
“By installing a rainwater tank, a typical family of four can collect enough rainwater for all of its laundry and toilet flushing use for a year, representing significant water savings equating to an average of 45,000 litres per year per household.
/2…NEW BOOK HELPS YOU HARVEST RAINWATER IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD
“With a number of states throughout Australia now offering rebates and incentives for installing rainwater harvesting devices, there is no better time for consumers to begin to manage their own water supply,” said Mr Herbert.
The Rainwater 2007 Consumer Guide is available from 1 October, at no cost, at your local Newspower store.
Consumers can also access the guide online by logging onto the GreenPlumbers website – www.greenplumbers.com.au or the ARID website at www.arid.asn.au .
