The Watershed at the Cargo Bike Picnic

City of Sydney

The Watershed in partnership with BIKESydney is holding Sydney's first Cargo Bike Picnic on Sunday 4 December 2011.

Specialist bike retailers and bike enthusiasts will be at the Cargo Bike Picnic to provide information about cycling, and using cargo bikes for a range of uses, sbikeuch as shopping and carrying children. Visitors will be able to try out different types of cargo bikes and electric bikes, and local owners of cargo bikes will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice.

Gazelle Cabby cargo bikes, Xtracycle Radish cargo bike, utility and kiddie trailers as well as an electric bike from The Watershed Bike Library will all be on display. There will also be free cycling maps, music, games and prizes available on the day.

The event will also include a Family Friendly Ride, which begins from Centennial Park and finishes at Sydney Park for the Cargo Bike Picnic. This group ride will help families learn the local bike-friendly routes along cycleways and quiet back streets. The Family Friendly Ride will start at 11am at Centennial Park, Robertson Road entrance and all riders must be 12 years and over.

Mayor of Marrickville Councillor Morris Hanna said the Cargo Bike Picnic is an opportunity for cyclists to see what's available and receive first hand advice from experienced cargo bike riders.

"With such a huge range of bikes on display, those who are interested in purchasing a new bike will be able to 'try before they buy' and find the right bike to suit their particular needs," Councillor Hanna said.

"For those who want to occasionally access a cargo bike, can sign up to The Watershed's Bike Library on the day."

The Cargo Bike Picnic will be held on Sunday 4 December from 11am to 3pm at CARES Cycling Centre Sydney Park. Please bring your own picnic basket and picnic blankets.

The Watershed is a joint initiative between the City of Sydney and Marrickville Councils as part of an ongoing commitment to support sustainable environments.
