Geothermal conference blazes trail for Asia renewables

cloudThe World Geothermal Energy Summit, to be held in the Philippines from 7-9 December, aims to blaze a trail for mass renewable energy in Asia.

"Connecting technology, financing and regulation towards a level playing field in geothermal energy advancement," is what the conference is all about according to the Philippines President Benigno Aquino.

The President noted that the goals are for the Philippines to be the number one geothermal energy producer in the world.

He said this would come about when the Philippines added a planned 1475 megawatts (MW) of capacity, which would see it overtake the United States in the process.

The conference brings together all the stakeholders from across the geothermal spectrum - government regulators, investors and investment managers, energy developers, and geothermal industry players from key countries - to find solutions to financial, regulatory and technical challenges and to increase the role of geothermal in the world's energy mix.

The World Geothermal Energy Summit 2011 spans three days from 7-9 December 2011, divided into workshops, case studies, President's Investor Breakfast and site tour at the Makban Geothermal Steamfield and Power Plants in Laguna/Batangas, sponsored by AP Renewables, Inc.

The President Investor Breakfast will be held at the Diamond Hotel Manila on December 9 and is being organised by regional think tank, the Centre for Energy Sustainability and Economics (CESE) and promoted by business media company Arc Media Global.

"We will not stop working until the operation of all these projects is ensured. We will continue making opportunities for similar renewable energy projects that ultimately pay more dividends to the Filipino people," said President Aquino.
