Fighting racism one t-shirt at a time

t-shirtIf the recent SBS documentary ‘Go Back To Where You Came From' struck a chord, then Etiko's ‘Racist Brain' t-shirt is for you. Based on a world-renowned anti-racism campaign, this organic, fairtrade t-shirt combines a serious message with a strong visual design in the fight against racist attitudes in Australia.

The Racist Brain design was first developed by UK advertising firm Saatchi & Saatchi London in 1996, for the European Youth Campaign Against Racism. Supported by the UK Commission for Racial Equality, the design features five brains: that of an African, a European, an Asian, an Aboriginal ....and a Racist - the smaller racist brain being representative of small-minded attitudes.

"We feel that the Racist Brain t-shirt really encapsulates what Etiko stands for," said Etiko founder Nick Savaidis.

"We're about debunking the attitudes that it's okay to exploit or vilify people on the basis of their race or colour. Racism is never OK, and we hope our t-shirts will play a small part in spreading that message."

Made from certified fairtrade and organic cotton, the t-shirts are printed in Australia with permission from the UK Human Rights Commission. Fairtrade certification means that wearers can be assured that every garment is free of child labour, and that adult workers involved in the garment's manufacture enjoy good work conditions, including healthcare, safe conditions and a decent wage.

Money raised from the sale of this t-shirt design will be donated to the Mt Theo Program in Central Australia, which dedicates itself to developing strength, health, meaningful pathways and leadership in Indigenous youth.

The Etiko ‘Racist Brain' t-shirt retails for $40. Available in black, white, grey and red in slim fit and unisex cuts.
