Changing Habits
The heritage of both my grandparents was known. Before my mother's generation there was no sign of haemophilia, it just appeared. Haemophilia is a genetic disorder passed from mother to son... but where did it come from in my family. Dr Bruce Lipton's work on epi-genetics says that the gene is the loaded gun but the environment is the trigger. Could the use of arsenic, dieldrin and DDT sprayed around Iowa during my grandparents days have been a reason for the trigger for the haemophilia to be introduced into our family? This is the question that baffles many seekers of the truth. The gene hunters are out in full force with the belief that genes are the cause of disease and if we find the gene then all will be fixed, but if that were so then what you were born with would predict your future health out come. In other words no matter what you do to your environment (eating good food and avoiding chemicals) this would have no impact on your health or sickness destiny. This is the attitude that today's health care now adopts. And as a result our health is propped up with vitamin K injections because the belief is that we were not born with enough vitamin K, we're vaccinated because our immune systems need boosting, antibiotics to kill bugs that otherwise our body supposedly can't kill, pain killers for a natural phenomenon such as teeth eruptions, then as we get older, anti-inflammatories, statins to reduce cholesterol, drugs for high blood pressure and so many more. Surely our bodies are not that pathetic. Nature or Nurture has always been the big question. Are we born with the problem or gift or is it nurtured? When it comes to health I believe it is all about nurture. Start a life right with breast feeding, nature based foods, avoid chemicals both in food and the environment, only use drugs in emergency and generally try to live a life with as little impact from man made food and chemicals. This is the way I have lived... as free as possible from chemicals and eating only whole foods - which by the way includes chocolate cake. I have bought my 3 adult children up this way and the four of us have never taken any form of medication in our lives. We all maintain wonderful energy and health and have never been on any weight loss diet. Yet I come from a family that has been devastated with diabetes, haemophilia, hepatitis, cancer, cleft palates and dysphagia, all so called genetic mishaps. But living in the Iowa corn belt offered many triggers for genetic deformity. Rachel Carson in her 1962 book Silent Spring issued to the world a warning about the chemicals infiltrating every corner of our planet and every cell of animals and humans. She talked about the devastation it was causing!! We have not heeded her warning and I believe that while she was talking about the environment she had no idea before her death that the triggers for the loaded guns of genes would not only be in our environment but purposely put into our food supply in the guise of ingredients such as; additives, preservatives, flavourings, modified, interesterified, hydrogenated, fractionated, emulsified, TVP, protein isolates and 1000's more triggers. Rachel pointed out that for the most part scientists were beginning to understand the ramifications of one chemical on the environment but what scared her was that if you put two chemicals into the environment and they mix then the ramifications were barely known but there was a realisation that the effects were more than double. When we put 80 additives into a prepared meal (just read the ingredients on a packaged food), how could we possibly know the ramifications on what it does to our body. The mind boggles at the stupidity of the food, science and sickness industry. Don't be part of the experiment, realise that nurturing your body with real foods free from chemicals and additives is the best thing you can do for your health and nurturing.
