The 'Greenhouse Titles' above the Sydney Opera House are currently listed for sale on Ebay by Earthcaire which has created the atmospheric ownership program to inspire people to care for the earths atmosphere and raise much needed funds to offset carbon emissions. Founder and Environmental Expert Anthony Clarke said other national icons would also soon go under the hammer. "We'll also be auctioning off the so called 'Greenhouse Titles' to Bondi Beach, Uluru, the Great Barrier Reef, Mount Kosciuszko, WA's Bungle Bungle range, and even Parliament House in Canberra," said Mr Clarke. "This new online system allows concerned people, groups or businesses to purchase a particular section of the atmosphere above their chosen site for care and protection," he said. "Our objective is to inspire more diligent stewardship of the earth's atmosphere." "Half of the money raised from the purchase of the Greenhouse Titles will be donated to well known and accredited carbon offset companies, making purchases tax deductable." Mr Clarke said it was time to treat the atmosphere as though we owned it. "While the debate over a carbon tax rages on in Canberra, no one feels responsible for the problem, and this system provides the opportunity for involvement and that feeling of ownership." "With the same freedoms we have to pollute the air, we are now able to purchase a specific atmospheric area and become a voice for its care." "Atmospheric ownership has the potential to transform the mindset of how we view and treat the sky." Mr Clarke said the system worked by:
Mr Clarke said companies had been selling ownerships of stars for years - but these were intangible and without any benefit to the environment. "This is all about changing people's mindset towards owning the atmosphere and the problems of carbon emissions, as well as supporting programs that can make a real difference. According to current data sources from the World Bank, World Development Indicators, Australia's emissions of carbon dioxide during the past 25 years have risen at twice the world average rate. The data shows Australia has 0.32 percent of the world's population, yet produces 1.43 per cent of carbon emissions. It shows pollution levels per person are 4.5 times the global average www.earthcaire.com provides a range of free information, informative videos, articles and an e-newsletter full of information on upcoming Australian landmarks for sale and pending.
