Banksia Awards, 2011
It is true the various issues are vast and cover a broad range. But most importantly there are those that are going forward and just doing it. There are the leaders and innovators who continue their quest, as well as ordinary Australians doing extraordinary things; and that is what the Banksia Awards are about. "Over the last 23 years we have seen the Banksia Awards grow exponentially and today it is seen as far more than just an acknowledgement. For the recipients, they are stepping stones opening doors to opportunities previously out of reach," said Graz van Egmond, Executive Director, Banksia Environmental Foundation at the launch of the Awards program hosted by Origin at their Rooftop Garden in Melbourne. The 2011 Banksia Awards are looking for submissions for the 10 category awards from every corner of this country from Australians who have made a significant contribution to the sustainable future of this country in "living better" and "working better"; through their leadership and innovative ways in managing environmental and societal improvements. In addition to the 10 category awards, researchers are encouraged to apply for the $30,000 offered via the Mercedes-Benz Australian Environmental Research Award. A partnership between the Banksia Foundation and Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific encouraging original research to provide assistance and support for sustainable and innovative solutions. Through the support of the GPT Group, the Banksia Foundation is also able to provide community groups with financial assistance of $10,000 through the Banksia Community Grant. Details about the various awards and previous winners are available on the Banksia website at www.banksiafdn.com.
