International RiverFoundation

africaInternational RiverFoundation CEO, Matthew Reddy, together with Inspired Adventures Director Justine Curtis and professional Community Organiser and RiverFoundation Ambassador Mr Olita Ogonjo launched Africa Challenge 2011, the latest environmental initiative between International RiverFoundation and Inspired Adventures.

Participants will travel to Nairobi, Kenya from 23 July 3 August 2011 where they will embark on a life changing twelve‐day adventure featuring a 5‐day trek of Mount Kenya, a visit to the acclaimed Nairobi National Park and most importantly working hands‐on as part of a community based Nairobi River restoration project.

"We'll be looking for people who want more than a sun tan and souvenirs from overseas travel and the Africa Challenge promises that. Our participants will be tested both physically and mentally, climbing peaks of five thousand metres in beautiful Kenyan savannahs contrasted with the stark conditions of working with slum communities to restore polluted urban waterways" Reddy says.

Registrations are open to the public with a national 'call out' issued to sign up as participant or sponsor. Individuals or teams are invited to register. Many corporate and government organisations are using the Challenge as a team building and personal development program for staff.

All money raised will result in a solid contribution to the $100K target. The much‐needed funds will ensure International RiverFoundation continues to work with communities across the globe assisting them to restore and sustainably manage their rivers for improved health, ecological, economic and social outcomes.

"The importance of RiverFoundation's work, not only at a local community level but also globally, is continued with funds raised through ventures such as the Africa Challenge 2011. We are encouraging anyone who has considered the health of our planet's waterways to join us in this most vital campaign by CALL TO ACTION" said Ogonjo.

Places are limited and a $700 per person registration fee applies. Each participant will raise at least $7,900 with support offered by Inspired Adventures through a comprehensive fundraising information pack and regular contact from the Inspired Adventures team, as well as ongoing support from International RiverFoundation.

Established in 2003, International RiverFoundation works to protect and restore the world's rivers, lakes and wetlands, rewarding and driving the restoration, protection and sustainable management of rivers around the world. A not‐for‐profit organisation, its goal is a world in which all rivers and waterways are healthy and sustainably managed.
