Life is better with National Tree Day

Planet Ark

shelly-craftPlanet Ark is calling on individuals, school teachers and members of community, faith, sporting and green groups to register and run tree-planting sites for National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day, happening on Sunday 1 August and Friday 30 July 2010.

Volunteers who register a site with Planet Ark before 28 May will go into the draw to win one of 50 prize packs, each containing a limited edition National Tree Day t-shirt and a bundle of temporary tattoos for distribution at their event.

"You don't need to be an expert gardener to be a National Tree Day Site- Coordinator," says Planet Ark Spokeswoman Rebecca Gilling.

"Planet Ark partners with local councils and Toyota dealers to provide Site Coordinators with the information and resources they need."

"We encourage anyone with a genuine interest in getting involved in a worthwhile community activity to register a National Tree Day site," says Gilling.

Celebrating its 15th year in 2010, National Tree Day is responsible for planting more than 15 million native trees and shrubs over the years.
Alan Donaldson from the Friends of the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens has been a National Tree Day Site Coordinator for three years.

"Though we began hosting public tree planting sites in 2003, and have always planted on National Tree Day, we only registered our site with Planet Ark three years ago," says Donaldson. "We're heartened by the additional response we've received from locals since partnering with Planet Ark. It's allowed us to increase our reach into the community and attract more volunteers to attend our treeplanting projects."

To register a National Tree Day site or for more information, visit http://treeday.planetark.org or call the National Tree Day Hotline on 1300 88 5000.
