schoolsSchools Environment Week, 19 - 23 March

Schools Environment Week, an annual sustainability event for Mornington Peninsula primary school, special school and kindergarten students will be held on 19-23 March at The Briars, Mount Martha.

Our Vision is: Connecting our children to their environment and creating a sustainable future

We strive to build environmental knowledge and skills by providing a broad range of activities that engage, inform and inspire students and promote active dialogue about sustainable practices in the environment

We also believe in promoting community through developing positive relationships between students and community groups and developing in students an awareness and appreciation of the cultural heritage of the indigenous people of the area.

Environment Week aims to inspire students and school communities, now and into the future, to take actions that support a sustainable environment. We also promote health and well being through connection to the natural environment and sustainable practices.

More than 20 interactive exhibits, an environmental expo and four workshop programs (Woodlands and Wetlands, Hands in the Dirt, Indigenous and Green Living) will be available to participating schools. The week provides diverse and interactive environmental learning experiences for primary and kindergarten students on topics ranging from marine and wildlife education to tree planting and learning about sustainability. To participate in the Week, schools must register.

Last year more than 3,500 students attended the event from 36 kindergartens and primary schools across the peninsula. This year promises to be even bigger and better with the redevelopment of the workshop programs and the inclusion of several new activities at the environmental expo.

Schools Environment Week is managed by an organising committee in partnership with major sponsor Mornington Peninsula Shire, and with support from numerous businesses, government and community organisations. The week also brings together volunteers from local community and environment groups who make a valuable contribution to the event and assist with activities and interactive displays.
